The Puppy Purchasing Process:
1. The Decision
After you've submitted your Puppy Application, we'll give you a call. Together we'll decide if a Spanish Water Dog is a good fit for you. Because of their high intelligence and their need for physical activity and social interaction, not everyone is ready to embrace this breed. But if you understand what they need from you and also value their loyalty, affection, playful nature, gorgeous woolly coat, and adoring gaze—then together we’ll move forward to explore the possibilities. We can schedule a visit if you’d like to come meet the parents, play with the puppies, and ask us a gazillion questions.
2. The Deposit
This is a rare and valuable breed. The cost of each puppy is a total of $2,500, which includes the non-refundable deposit of $500. If you’re ready to commit to a puppy, we’ll email you an invoice to use when paying your deposit. You can use either PayPal, a debit card, or a credit card. The deposit is non-refundable in order to make sure that only people who are truly serious leave a deposit.
Once you’ve sent your deposit, we'll reserve the puppy of your choice until she is ready to leave for your home after she is 8 weeks old.
3. The Training
While your pup is growing, we'll start her socialization training to make sure that she is ready to take on the outside world. This will make sure that she is not excessively shy around new people, especially children. At 10 weeks old we begin “sit/stand/down/stay” training using positive reinforcement. Around 12 weeks of age we’ll start focusing on house training. That’s approximately the time that she is able to better control her bladder and bowels.
4. The Final Vet Check
Right before you come to get your puppy, we’ll bring him to our vet for a full check up. The vet will fill out an official CVI (Certificate of Veterinary Inspection). This document lists his name, age, vaccinations, and guarantees that he is not showing any signs of infectious or contagious disease. It says that he is fit for travel. Each state’s requirements are different, but for some states it is required that the CVI be dated less than 10 days from the pup’s arrival at his destination.
5. The Balance Payment
When it’s almost time for you to take your pup home, we’ll send you a second invoice to use when paying your balance. This final payment can be made after you have your puppy in your arms in our home. You can pay in cash, or you can use Paypal or a card using you phone or laptop.
6. The Pick-up!
We'll agree on a schedule for you to pick up your puppy after she is at least 8 weeks old! If you are not able to come to get your pup, we can talk about the possibility of a delivery. Make sure that you have all the items on the initial supply list that we will send you. Especially be sure to have a collar, leash, and an ID tag with you when you come for your pup. We recommend that you have a crate waiting at home for your puppy’s first night, especially if she is not yet fully house trained. We will provide you with:
a few days supply of our puppy chow (Royal Canin Puppy Medium),
a Sales Agreement with our health guarantee,
the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection,
an immunization record, and
your puppy’s official UKC or AKC registration papers.
